Spokane – Ben Stuckart, Spokane City Council President and 2018 candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington’s 5th Congressional District, today expressed disappointment in House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ depictions of the AHCA.
“Yesterday’s Congressional Budget Office report revealed Trumpcare for what it is,” Stuckart said. “It’s a disastrous law that will deprive millions of people of the care they need to survive. This bill is un-American, and the fact that our Representative helped to ram it through the House before the CBO analysis was even complete is a total travesty.”
According to the CBO, 23 million Americans will lose their health insurance under Trumpcare. In addition, premiums are expected to rise 20% as soon as 2018, with protections for pre-existing conditions slashed and vital care providers like Planned Parenthood defunded.
“To me, the business with pre-existing conditions is particularly heinous,” Stuckart said. “My wife has a pre-existing condition. Our Representative swore up and down that she would never remove protections for pre-existing conditions, but here we are. She has blatantly lied to the people of Eastern Washington, and that is completely unacceptable.”
Stuckart, in his second term as Spokane City Council President, announced his bid for Congress in early December 2016. If elected, he would be the first democrat to represent Washington’s 5th Congressional District since the late Tom Foley, who rose to be Speaker of the House during his illustrious political career.
